Brick Laying

The assignment: make a model of a scene that tells a one sentence story.
Our sentence was something along the lines of: As all of the bricks fell in the house, the giraffe peaked out of the front door.
We laid over 1000 bricks for this model! Many hours of meticulous gluing and nerve-racking walks to class with it.

This sculpture is going to kill me!

Every time I look at my sculpture, it evolves. Here's the status of it right now! I'm painting it glossy white and add a few more tubes coming out of the back. ...I hope I'm happy with putting this down soon.

Artist Profile: Megan Breukelman

For thinking and writing space, we had to choose a partner and make learn about who they were as an artist and make an artist profile about them.
Here's my artist profile of Megan Breukelman. She takes really great pictures!

Color Sculpture Coming Along!

So, I spent a few hours last night in my kitchen mixing colors and dying plastic tubes like a mad man. This time around, I bought some latex gloves and a facial mask to guard me from breathing in the black smoke! For some reason the color blue is really stubborn and will not attach to the plastic tubing. My blue tube is painted on with acrylic. I now have yellow, orange, red, black, white, purple, and blue tubing. I have put steal wire though them so that they can hold a unique shape.
My next step is to buy some larger diameter tubing and experiment with the structure. It's very difficult to draw a sketch of my structure...but that's what I probably should do to get this looking how I want it.
Here's where I'm at:

Photo Open Assignment

Our photography assignment this time around is open. Anything.we.want. It's quite scary not having limits. Here's my first shooting day. I think it was a good effort. We got a few really nice shots but I think I'm going to go out again before next Thursday's critique. I really love the light in the blue tubing pictures, but they aren't congruent with the other portraits. I think next time I'm going to try to incorporate more props so they can fit.
Here are the winners:

The Sexual Reproduction of Color

Primary Colors.Sex.Secondary Colors. Roller Coster. It is still hard to verbally conceptualize the installation. I've got a few pictures that could make sense of what I'm doing.
Here's a very crude drawing of the piece.

Let's talk design:
I'm going to have one black piece of wood, probably a circle. There will be three small holes in it. One of the holes has red and yellow tubing wrapped around each, they go into a tube together and orange shoots out. Another hole has Red and blue wrapped together and they go into a tube and out shoots purple. Another hole has yellow and blue wrapped together as they go into a tube green shoots out. The inspiration from a rollercoster and as the tubes go through tunnels together, their secondary colors or "babies" come out the other end.

Welcome to "The food stuff snack place"

we made a collage today in fall studio workshops. It looks like a menu to a restaurant!

Still Life

We are working with complimentary colors and still life. In this assignment, we had to find 5 objects that were one complimentary color and five that were another and mix them together in a series of pictures. Then we had to paint the best still life.
